Σωκράτης Ιορδανίδης
Socratis Iordanidis (1912-1985) was born in Constantinople and in 1922 he settled with his family in Thessaloniki. His father was also a photographer. As a photojournalist he worked with all the newspapers of Thessaloniki, the USIS, the State Theatre of Northern Greece, the State Orchestra of Northern Greece, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and various consulates. After the war he collaborated with the photographer Michalis Tsolakidis and in 1974 he created his own studio. Parts of his archive belong to the MOMus-Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki and the State Theatre of Northern Greece. The archive of Socrates Iordanidis was purchased by the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography in 1999 and includes 8206 6x6 cm A/M negatives, 3361 colour slides and 6x6 colour negatives, 418 35 mm colour negatives, 1391 stock samples, and 350 A/M prints. It is dated in the post-war period and most of it includes photographs of Thessaloniki. Thematically, it depicts the urban landscape as well as picturesque neighborhoods of the city, historical monuments and modern infrastructure, snapshots of everyday life as well as scenes of toil and work.
