Σοφία Σβορώνου
Sofia Svoronou was born in 1933 in Athens. She studied painting in Athens and Paris and sociology in Athens. Her painting moved within the framework of geometric abstraction, constructivism and op art. She used to structure her compositions in spheres, polygons, ellipses and other shapes, for which she mainly chose black and white, as well as tones of grey. Gradually, she transferred the same perspective from the two dimensions of the canvas to the three dimensions of the wooden wall constructions, and her main aim was to document the alienation of man by modern culture. Her solo exhibition activity was modest, holding six solo exhibitions in Athens, Paris and Cyprus, while she participated in many group exhibitions (Panhellenic 1967, Biennale Sao Paulo 1979, etc.). She also collaborated with the magazine Anti and was active in various political and social ways. She died in Athens in 1981.
