Cables (Togetherness)
Μίλτος ΜανέταςMiltos Manetas was born in 1964 in Athens. He studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan (1985-1989), where he stayed for a long time after completing his studies. His work explores the relationship between people and modern consumer electronics. His paintings of vast masses of computer cables or people deeply engrossed with their laptops, smartphones, game consoles or GPS systems, oblivious to the world around them, show the paradoxical sense of interconnectedness and isolation that the internet can create. In 2000, Manetas founded the Neen art movement, which brought together visual artists, web designers, software engineers and game designers to create works that combined art and poetry with modern digital technology. In 2002, he created a controversial online version of the Whitney Biennale and in 2009 he co-created the first "Internet Pavilion" for the Venice Biennale. He lives and works mainly in London and Los Angeles.
