Joan RabascallJoan Rabascall was born in 1935 in Barcelona, where he subsequently studied at the Superior School of Decorative Arts. He received a scholarship to continue his studies at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he has been permanently resident since 1962. In the 1960s he came into contact with avant-garde artists of the Independent Group in London and the Nouveaux Réalistes in Paris, as well as the critics Lawrence Alloway and Pierre Restany respectively. Using the collage technique and later photomontage and chromogenic photography, he attempted to construct images by offering a re-reading of existing ones, subverting their original context and content, and was a participant in the outbreak of the critical spirit against consumer society and the effects of mass media. In the 1980s and 1990s he enriched his work with sculptures and installations. He presented his work in many cities around the world.
