Xenis Sachinis was born in 1954 in Thessaloniki. Son of the artist Nikos Sachinis, he came into contact with art from a very young age and turned to it. He studied printmaking and set design at the Athens School of Fine Arts under the tutelage of K. Grammatopoulos and V. He graduated in 1978. He then moved to Paris, where he studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts with V. Guignebert (1981-1985). One year later and while he has returned to Greece he starts teaching at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in 2009 he is elected full professor and director of the printmaking studio. Furthermore, he organized printmaking seminars and participated in international conferences and committees, while in 1997 he founded together with Manolis Giannadakis the research center-engraving workshop "Ilios" in the Municipality of Neapolis-Sykeon. His multifaceted work explores the way the image is produced. He takes his inspiration from painting and printmaking, but in the process these two arts run parallel in his work and merge to gradually lead him to create constructions in wood and sheet metal, while after the mid-1990s he begins to use Plexiglas, creating a large series of works in which it functions as the primary material. He held a series of solo exhibitions, which exceed forty, and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. In 1997 he took part in the Alexandria Biennale, where he won the engraving prize, as well as in international exhibitions of engraving (Egypt, America, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Estonia, Estonia, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia).
