Manolis Zacharioudakis was born in Athens in 1958. He was interested in art from an early age, took preparatory lessons with Tasos Rigas (1975-1979) and then studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1979-1984), under the tutelage of D. Mytharas, D. Kokkinidis and N. Kessanlis. In 2003 he attended the Hellenic Studies program of Princeton University in the United States as a visiting artist. Alongside his visual art work, he has been involved in the illustration of books, newspapers and magazines, as well as the creation of comics, album cover design and web pages. He has also been involved in writing books and has published the following: Beowulf and Other Images (1997), Prehistoric Restoran (2001), Painting, Instructions for Use (2011). He draws his themes from various subjects: mythology, literature, while he is also inspired by everyday experiences or creates. His compositions do not lack a humorous and playful mood, which is reflected in peculiar narrative stories. In his early works from the mid-1980s, elements of pop art (pure colours, subject-objects) can be discerned, but there are also signs of his later course that refer to Byzantine hagiography, while from the early 2000s he expands his visual means and begins to incorporate computer graphics and multimedia applications into his work, while using pure colours and a more austere iconography and style, which transforms the works and their production process into a visual game. He has presented his work in more than twenty solo exhibitions in various cities in Greece, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
