Κατερίνα ΖαχαροπούλουKaterina Zacharopoulou was born in 1958 in Athens. She studied painting at the Artistic Workshop of Experimental Research in Athens from 1982-1987, where she also studied plastic arts and the use of computers in art. She then pursued further training in pedagogical programs on contemporary art at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris (1900-1994). In 1997 she received a grant from the American Embassy, the Hellenic American Association and the Chicago Artist International Program to present her work at the Chicago-Cultural Center. In addition to her art work, she has been involved in journalism and still presents television and radio programs on contemporary art ("Artfil| on SevenX, "Good Evening Mr. Picasso" and "The Age of Images" on ERT). She also writes articles for the daily and periodical press, teaches at private schools, and lectures on contemporary art. In the early years of her artistic career she signed her works as Katie Fragou. Her artistic practice includes installations, constructions, photography and videos for which she draws her inspiration from nature and psychic motivations, guiding the viewer to familiar landscapes with which she herself can find common ground through her personal experiences. She has presented her work in fifteen solo exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki, starting in 1988 at the Epochs Art Gallery, while she has also participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. She lives and works in Athens.
