Danae Stratou was born in 1964 in Athens. From 1983-1987 she studied sculpture at Central St. Martin's College of Art and Design in London. Her work consists of large-scale installations and audiovisual environments, in which she uses various digital and acoustic media, video, photography as well as metal and natural materials. She started her artistic work with metal sculptures, in the late 1990s she became more intensely concerned with the surrounding space, leading to large-scale works. One of her largest projects was the 100,000 sqm sculptural composition Desert Breath (1997) in El Gouna, Egypt, which she studied, designed and created together with the architect S. In 1999 he represented Greece together with Kostas Varotsos and Evanthia Tsantila at the 48th Venice Biennale, with Anna Kaefetsi as commissioner. In 2004, he created the video installation "The River of Life" which recorded the flow and rhythm of the seven largest rivers in the world, while in 2007, in the photographic installation Cut-7 Dividing Lines, he attempts to explore the connections between politically or religiously divided parts of the world. In 2017, using water and soil as the main materials of the work and 1000 handmade ceramic pots, he created the installation Earth Under the Clouds at the Old Mill and the ancient city of Elefsina.
