Yorgos Manousakis was born in 1914 in Heraklion, Crete. He began his studies at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Athens, which he abandoned and entered the A.S.K.T. in 1934, where he studied painting and engraving under the tutelage of Um. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens, where he studied painting and printmaking with Umm Argyros, K. Parthenis and G. Partenis. K. K. Kefallinos (1934-1939). He was an art editor of the publications of the Commercial Bank and the National Tourism Organisation and was also involved in book illustration. He was awarded a distinction by the Academy of Athens (1995) and in 2005 a retrospective exhibition of his work was organised at the Benaki Museum. He presented his works, paintings, engravings, drawings, in fifteen solo exhibitions in Athens, Heraklion, Thessaloniki and participated in several group exhibitions in Greece and abroad [Panhellenic (1939, 1940, 1948, 1952, 1967, 1975), Nutida Grekisk Konst (Goteborg, 1955).
