Vangelis Gokas was born in 1969 in Corinth. He initially studied painting at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of Thessaloniki in the workshop of V. He attended courses in printmaking and photography with G. G. Gokas in the workshop of G. Dimitreas at the School of Fine Arts in Thessaloniki. He also studied at the studio of photography with G. Milio and G. Dimitrios. He continued his studies at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona (1995-1997). He completed his postgraduate studies at the A.S.K.T. (2004-2006). He worked as a teacher in secondary education and since 2011 he has been working at the Painting Laboratory of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Ioannina, currently at the rank of professor. Gokas develops a personal visual idiom, appropriating images from photographs, which he reconstructs with painterly means, redefining the boundaries between photography and painting. He creates a series of "place-spaces", drawing his subjects from images of the natural and urban landscape, which are characterized by a mystical mood, moving between realism and fantasy. He has presented his work in nine solo exhibitions, as well as in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad: Theorimata, AICA Hellas, EMST (2018); 3rd Athens Biennale MONODROME (2011), In present time: Young Greek Artists, EMST (2007) etc. His works are in museums and private collections in Greece and abroad.
