Μαρία ΠαπαδημητρίουΤο 2007 η Μαρία Παπαδημητρίου δημιουργεί τη σειρά έργων «Έργα Νίκου Εγγονόπουλου από τη συλλογή Mary & Harry Potter”. Η καλλιτέχνιδα μελετώντας τα σουρεαλιστικά έργα του Νίκου Εγγονόπουλου προσπαθεί να δημιουργήσει συσχετισμούς με πρόσωπα μέσα από λαϊκά αναγνώσματα και εικονογραφίες. Επιχειρεί να αναζητήσει τις ομοιότητες ανάμεσα στην αυτοπροσωπογραφία του νεαρού Νίκου Εγγονόπουλου και του λογοτεχνικού και κινηματογραφικού ήρωα Χάρι Πότερ και φιλοτεχνεί μια σειρά έργων, όπου αποδίδονται οι χαρακτηριστικές μορφές και τα θέματα του Νίκου Εγγονόπουλου μέσα από τη δική της χαρακτηριστική εικαστική γραφή στην οποία κυριαρχεί το έντονο χρώμα και η λυρικότητα με μια έντονα αφαιρετική διάθεση.
Maria Papadimitriou was born in 1957 in Athens. She studied painting in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts from 1981 to 1986. Her artistic practice encompasses a wide range of media, including photography, video, sculpture and installations. Her artwork is diverse and highly interactive, often carrying social and political undertones. It places a central focus on people and places, seeking to highlight the interconnections between art and social reality.
In 1998, she founded the Temporary Autonomous Museum for All (T.A.M.A.) in Athens. In 2012, she established the artistic canteen "Soyzy Tros" in the Elaionas neighbourhood of Athens. Since 2017, she has been co-directing the Victoria Square Project in collaboration with American artist Rick Lowe.
In 2003 she was awarded the "DESTE Prize" by the DESTE Foundation for contemporary Greek art in 2003, and in 2016 she was awarded by the Government of the French Republic the Order of the Order of the Phoenix for Academics. She represented Greece at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 with her work "Agrimiká. Why Look at Animals." Currently, she holds the position of Professor of Art and Design at the Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Thessaly.
