Michalis Lekakis was born in 1907 in Manhattan, New York. His parents had roots in the Monemvasia region of Greece and operated a family business related to floristry, where Lekakis worked from a young age. A self-taught sculptor and painter from a young age, he was involved in drawing and sculpture, with a particular focus on wood as his primary material.
He initially created realistic forms in his sculptures but quickly abandoned them, moving towards abstraction. This same direction was followed in his paintings, characterized by geometric elements and earthy tones. He drew inspiration for his thematic content from mythology and tradition. Michalis Lekakis passed away in New York in 1987.
