Μανώλης ΜπαμπούσηςManolis Baboussis was born in 1950 in Athens. He studied architecture at the University of Florence (1968-1975) with Professor A. Natalini, and participated in the restoration project of the International Centre for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage of Unesco, (I.C.C.R.O.M.) in Rome. As an architect he has worked for the OCC (School Buildings Organisation). His artistic practice includes prints, videos, photo projections, drawings and installations. With his photographic images, drawings, poems and installations, he comments on social, political and artistic reality, the wooden language with a caustic tone, often proposing utopia as an everyday reality. His works take a critical approach to the destruction of the environment, the depression of constant trauma, the globalized immaterial economy, and the institutions even of art. In 1999, he founded the ASFA's Photography Lab and taught in the School's graduate program, digital art forms and the trajectories of photography in contemporary art. In 2011, as vice dean and architect, he designed, planned, organized and oversaw the transformation of the ASFA parking lot into a garden. In 2013 he resigned from the position of Vice Rector, (2010-2013) and from the position of a regular professor at ASFA, disagreeing with the non-inclusion of photography in the curricula of the School of Fine Arts. He has presented his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and art spaces: In 2003, the N.M.S.T. held a retrospective exhibition of his work: Manolis Babousis 1973-2003 and in October 2022 he exhibited his work at the Nikos Kessanlis Hall of the Athens School of Fine Arts, A.S.K.T. in Athens. He lives and works in Athens.
