Vassilis Skylakos was born in 1930 in Kiato, Corinthia. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome (1957-1960), lived for two years in Copenhagen and then in France until his final return to Greece and his permanent residence in Athens in 1964. In his work one can see influences from a multitude of currents in Western art of the second half of the 20th century, without, however, being directly characterized as a representative of any particular movement. He collects a number of old, discarded, useless to others, objects from the street and from junk shops, creating compositions that are essentially intuitive, as they are grounded in emotion. He has held solo exhibitions in various cities in Greece, and participated in dozens of group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He died in Kiato, Corinthia in 2007.
