Βασίλης ΣπεράντζαςVassilis Sperantzas was born in 1938 in Athens. He initially studied painting and printmaking at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris (1956-1962) and then engraving at various art academies in London. From 1976 to 1987 he taught lithography as a curator at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. His painting is distinguished by its profoundly anthropocentric character. The female figure predominates, almost always depicted nude on the interiors of houses or on the balconies of neoclassical buildings, while, by contrast, the male figure, when it appears, is always clothed, usually in a striped suit. The atmosphere of his compositions, poetic-lyrical, is characterized by a charged erotic mood with sexual allusions, while the strongly pictorial character, the nostalgic aspects of another era, the bright colours, the plasticity of the volumes, the decorative and symbolic motifs are the main elements of his compositions. His solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad are numerous, while he has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. These include most of the Panhellenic exhibitions from 1960 to 1987, the Paris Salon de Mai from 1967 to 1987, the São Paulo Biennale in 1971, etc.
