Antonina Fedorovna Sofronova (Droskovo, Orel Province, March 14th, 1892- Moscow, May 14th, 1966) attended the Commercial School of Kiev and moved to Moscow in 1910, where she attended lessons at the studios of Fedor Rerberg, Ilia Mashkov and Aleksandr Michailovskii (1910-1913). She exhibited with the “Jack of Diamonds” and with the “World of Art” groups in Moscow, in 1914 and in 1917 respectively. In 1915, she married the artist Genrich Bliumenfeld. From 1917 to 1920 she lived in Orel and during the years 1920 - 1921 she taught at the State Art Studios in Tver together with Mikhail Sokolov and Nikolai Tarabukin. In late 1921 she moved to Moscow. From 1921 to 1923 Sofronova worked in the Constructivist style. In 1923 she designed the cover of Tarabukin’s book From the Easel to the Machine. Sofronova worked as an illustrator for journals, newspapers, books and posters. In 1925 she participated in the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. In 1930-1931 she joined the “Group 13”. In 1933 she participated in the exhibition Artists of the USSR over the last 15 years. From the late 1920s up to the 1930s she used to paint landscapes and portraits.
