Βέρα ΠέστελBorn in Moscow, May 13, 1886; died in Moscow, November 18, 1952. She studied at the Sunday classes of the Stroganov School under M. Faliz from 1904 to 1906 and privately under Ivan Dudin and Konstantin Yuon, 1906-08 and under Egon Kish, a pupil of Simon Hollosy, 1909-11. In 1911-12 she worked in the collective art studio Tower. In winter 1912-13 she studied in the Academie La Palette under Henry Le Fauconnier and Jean Metzinger in Paris. Se was there with Popova and Udaltsova. In 1915-16 participated in the exhibition 0,10 in St. Petersburg and in The Store organised by Tatlin in Moscow. From 1916 to 1917 she was a member of the “Supremus” Society. In 1918 executed suprematist decorations for the Club of the Left Federation of the Union of Painters in Moscow together with Sofia Karetnikova, Lubov Popova and Nadezhda Udaltsova. In 1922 she designed the sets and costumes for the Ballets Fuenta Ovechuna and Scenes from China Life for the studio of Shalomova and was represented in the First Russian Art Exhibition in Berlin in 1922 and in Amsterdam in 1923. In 1922-25 she was a member of the Makovets group and organised the Path of Painting group with Lev Zhegin . From 1920 she was concerned with the artistic education of children.
