He was born in Gorlovka, Donbass, January 5, 1889. He died in Moscow, June 6, 1963. He attended classes at the Odessa School of Fine Arts (1915-16) and in 1916 enrolled at the Kharkiv School of Fine Arts. Studies at Vkhutemas in Moscow (1920-24). Member of the First Working Group of the Constructivists, under the leadership of Alexei Gan. He participated in the First interactive exhibition of the associations of active revolutionary art, in Moscow in 1924. In the 1920s he directed theater performances and designed books, posters and interiors for exhibitions and museums: The Cologne International Press Exhibition (in 1928, with El Lisitsky and others), the Museum of the Revolution in Moscow (1931), the Moscow Agricultural Exhibition (1938-39).
