Born in Moscow, April 4, 1899, died in Moscow, May 1, 1982. Born to a Swedish father and s Russian mother, grew up and worked closely with his brother Georgii (1900- 1933). From 1912 to 1917 he studied at the Stroganov Art School in Moscow. In 1915- 17 worked on and off as a theatrical designer for a variety and cinema company with father and brother. In 1917 military courses. In 1919 he and Georgii became members of Obmokhu (Society of Young Artists). In 1920- 23 he was a member of Inkhuk. In January 1922 at the Poet’s Cafe the Stenberg brothers (“Stenberg-2”) and Konstantin Medunetskii organised an exhibition of their own constructions entitled The Constructivists. From 1922 to 1931 Stenber-2 designed stage sets and costumes for Aleksandr Tairov at the Chamber Theatre in Moscow. The brothers produced designs for film posters during the 1920’s. From 1929 to 1932 taught drawing at the Architecture Construction Institute in Moscow. After Georgii’s death, Vladimir continued to work as a designer.
