Painting work

Kostas Loustas was born in 1933 in Athens, but grew up in Florina. He returned to Athens to study painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Yannis Moralis (1953-1958). From 1963 and for a number of years he lived and worked in New York, presenting his work in internationally renowned galleries and institutions abroad. Furthermore, he exhibited his work in art venues in various cities in Greece, while after his death in 2014, retrospective exhibitions of his work were organized by the Corfu Art Gallery and the Benaki Museum (2016). Alongside painting, he was involved in literature, poetry, music and writing and was honoured for both his literary and poetic work. He was a founding member of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Florina, a member of the artistic committee of the Dimitria and a member of the board of directors of the State Museum of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki. The themes of his works cover a wide range: portraits, still lifes, depictions of natural and urban landscapes, seascapes, nudes, through which he aims to bring to the surface their latent expressive load, so that they can be perceived by the viewer. He died in 2014.
