Τζούλια ΔημακοπούλουJulia Dimakopoulou was born in 1932 in Patras. She initially studied interior architecture with the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa in Venice (1954-1957) and then studied painting and art history at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. In 1959 he founded the "New Forms Art Gallery", together with Andreas and Dionysia Prokopiou. Until 2009, when the Art Gallery closed down, he was involved in the management of the space, developing a wide range of activities in the field of visual arts. During the dictatorship period, as the visual arts movement had declined as a reaction of artists to the junta regime, he was involved as a consultant in interior design and architecture. She was a founding member of the Panhellenic Association of Art Galleries and the first chairman of the board until 2005, and under her watch (1993) the annual contemporary art meeting Art Athina was established. In 2009 she was a pioneer in the establishment of the Institute of Contemporary Greek Art -iset, an institution whose primary role is to record the visual arts in Greece from 1945 to the present day, which in 2021 was donated to the National Gallery-Alexandros Soutsos Museum. Alongside her professional capacity as owner and director of the gallery, she also became involved in painting, more so after the 1970s, without, however, exhibiting her works. She first presented her works in 1999 in a modest solo exhibition at the Nees Morfes Art Gallery, in celebration of its 40th anniversary, and in 2017 in the solo exhibition "Memories" at the Institute of Contemporary Greek Art.
