Sotirios Michou was born in 1936 in Athens. He attended schools in Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Crete and Athens. In 1955, after graduation, he moved to Karlsruhe, where he began studying Electrical Engineering and in 1961 switched to the field of Architecture. From 1961-1968 he was an associate and assistant professor at the Institute for Fundamental Principles of Architecture with independent teaching duties, and in 1967-1969 he was a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) scholar. In the early 1970s he started video and performance productions, and also worked as a visiting professor at the Karlsruhe State Academy of Fine Arts (1970). From 1972 to 1973 he was involved in theatre, made his first theatre productions and was director of the Zimmertheater (Chamber Theatre) in Tübingen. In 1974 he was appointed professor at the Department of Construction at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and then director of the Department of Construction, where he reorganised the department into four areas after 1978: Plastics, Object and Movement, Game and Object Theatre, and introduced performance as a course at the Academy of Fine Arts. The success of the performances entitled "Elasticity-Fine Arts and Theatre" in Frankfurt, which Michou organised with students from the Construction Department of the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts, was a catalyst and resulted in the Ministry of Culture asking him to establish a similar course at the University of Stuttgart, This was carried out in 1981 and the Department of Construction Design at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts was launched on a pilot basis, and in the course of time it became part of the permanent curriculum and in 2001 was renamed the Department of Visual Arts Design - Intermediate Design. He died in 2010.
