Ioannis Monogyios was born in 1965 in Kavala. He began studying drawing and sculpture under the motivation and guidance of Konstantinos Palian, in the context of the visual arts group "Polyelastiri". In 2008, at the encouragement of the engraver Ruud Matthes, he attended for three years engraving courses with Dimitris Karlafopoulos at the "Ilios" Engraving Centre in Neapolis, Thessaloniki. He was involved in engraving, especially linotype, and also professionally in ceramics. He is a member of the Association of Artists of Visual Arts of Northern Greece (SKETBE) and the Union of Greek Printmakers (EEX). In 2012, he organized together with the artist Maria Passalis the four-day "1st Symposium of Printmaking SKETBE - Printmakers Writings", which took place at SKETBE and the French Institute of Thessaloniki. He has presented his work in solo exhibitions and participated in more than forty group exhibitions in Greece, Spain, France, Britain, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, Mexico, Argentina, Turkey, Egypt and India. His works are in public and private collections in Greece and abroad. He lives and works in Thessaloniki.
