Painting work Flights in Silence

Christos Kechagioglou was born in 1960 in Thessaloniki. He initially studied civil engineering at the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1978-1983), attending painting classes with Nikos Sachinis, and then studied film directing at the E. Hadjikou Film School (1982-1985). At the University of Sorbonne-Paris I, in the context of philosophy studies, he studied the relationship between film and painting. Alongside his artistic work, he directed dozens of films and video art works, which were screened at various festivals in Greece and Europe, while he also worked as an art director for a film and advertising production company. Colour is a structural element of his works, especially bright colours, which enrich his compositions, which are mainly landscapes of natural space with a dreamy mood, reminiscent of children's iconography. There are many variations on the theme, which the artist handles differently, depending on the effect he wants to achieve each time. Thus, while in his early landscapes it seems as if he is observing and capturing the space from above, it is then revealed through plant motifs, where the perspective is condensed and the near and the distant are synthesized. In his more mature work, the compositions, more abstract than his earlier ones, depict landscapes in which the element of water dominates, while colour, more limited, acts as a by-product, creating a dreamlike dimension. He first presented his work in 1981 in a solo exhibition to be followed by a long series of solo exhibitions, mainly in Greece and Belgium, and participated in dozens of group exhibitions.
