Bacon’s smile
Ράνια ΡάγκουRania Rangou was born in 1970. She studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1989-1994) and at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid (1994-1995), while in 1998-1999 she studied Video Art and Music & Sound Techniques at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her work, primarily painterly, simultaneously incorporates new media experience from digital photography, video and digital collage to installations and film. Utilizing new media and technology, she does not hesitate to critique the contemporary system of information and communication as shaped by media or networking and technological development, while creating representations, often illegible and dizzying, that are conceptually grounded. She presented her work for the first time in a solo exhibition in 1997 at the Astrolabe Gallery in Athens and since then she has exhibited regularly in Athens and Thessaloniki, while she has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. She lives and works in Athens.
