Ifigenia Lagana was born in 1915 in Messolonghi. She studied painting at the A.S.K.T. with Umm. Argyros and engraving with G. She worked as a teacher in secondary education for a short period of time. The subject matter of her works included landscapes, scenes of everyday life as well as rural life, still lifes, etc., while her works moved within the broader framework of impressionism. Her works of the mature period, oils and tempera on canvas, large-scale, more abstract, testify to a peculiar expressionist idiom. She held solo exhibitions in Athens, at the Zygos Gallery (1960, 1961, 1962, 1963), the Athens Art Gallery "Hilton" (1965), the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Athens (1976), the Ora Artistic Cultural Centre (1981), the Dada Gallery (1989, 1991, 1992). She also held solo exhibitions in Thessaloniki, at the "Rotonda" Gallery (1975, 1977) and in Crete at the "K. Stavrakaki" Gallery (1977, 1978). She participated in thirteen Panhellenic exhibitions (1938-1987) and in many international group exhibitions in Greece and abroad with the "International Federation" of women artists, where she received international distinctions. She died in 2004 in Athens.
