The impossibe lesson
Ηώ ΑγγελήIo Angeli was born in 1960 in Mytilene. She initially studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and then studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts with Dimitris Mytaras (1981-1986). With a scholarship from the Royal College of Art in London (1988-1990) and with a scholarship from the I.K.Y. he attended stage design courses at Slade-St. Martin's School of Art & Design (1990-1991). The human form is prominent in her early works and colour is a key element. In the 1990s her compositions move within the framework of abstraction, but the figurative motifs remain and from the mid-1990s she turned her interest to urban space and the environment and moved on to depictions of cities and landscapes, while after the mid-2000s she turned to depicting interiors and then female figures, which silently converse with the allegory of their history. In more recent works she revisits issues of the fluidity of space and explores its role as both space and place, rendering it with greater or lesser symbolic mood and narrative. She has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions in Athens, Thessaloniki, Trikala, Nicosia and Hydra and has participated in more than a hundred group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
