Δημήτρης ΞόνογλουDimitris Xonoglou was born in Proti Serres in 1949. He studied painting and printmaking at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome (1972-76) and ceramics at the Scuola delle Arti Ornamentali di San Giacomo (1972-75). He taught at the Pedagogical Academy of the Aristotle University and as Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including the Biennale of Young Artists of the European Mediterranean Countries (Marseille, 1985), the L'Dimitria (Thessaloniki, 1995), Athens by art (2004), the 16th International Biennale of Sport in Contemporary Art (Thessaloniki, 2005) and as a representative of Thessaloniki in the exhibition Container '96 in Copenhagen, European Capital of Culture 1996. His artistic practice includes paintings, constructions from a variety of materials, installations and environments. In his early works he prefers bright colours and expressionistic distortion. In his constructions he used burnt pages of "correct discourse" books (physics, mathematics, Marxist philosophy, etc.), wax, flour, etc. and the result was works of strange texture, strong smell and unexpected appearance. The fullest expression of his aspirations are the installations and environments in which the concepts of reason, knowledge and art are projected. The common denominator in all his work is a strong conceptual and symbolic charge.
