Γιώργος ΚουβάκιςGeorge Kouvakis was born in 1946 in Thessaloniki. He took drawing lessons at a young age, wishing to study architecture, but he attended the Anotaki School of Electronics. Self-taught, he used acrylic paints with paper and gauze. His early works reveal the influences of many stylistic directions, however, he found his style by laying strips of paper in horizontal and vertical arrangements, which he worked extensively with gauze and other materials. The result often refers to a kind of abstract landscape painting, which also exudes a lyrical mood. A large section of his works are also portrait figures, in which the influences of neo-representational trends play a decisive role, which resulted in them being depicted initially as masks, while subsequently incorporating photography into his works to create complex portrait references. He presented his work in a series of solo exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki, while he has also participated in group exhibitions in various cities in Greece since 1981.
