Γιάννης ΠόσνακωφYanni Posnakov, originally from Belarus, was born in 1933 in Thessaloniki. He graduated in 1953 from the Merchant Navy School of Engineering, having studied engineering and shipbuilding, and continued his engineering studies at Berkeley University of California (1954-1956) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1956-1958). After graduation and until 1965, he worked as a shipbuilder, and thereafter worked exclusively in painting, taking classes at the New York School of Visual Arts and the Art Student's League in New York City. The themes of his works focus on issues of motherhood, childhood and family life and are often charged with symbolic content. He has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, while at the same time he has carried out a series of events with the active participation of adults and children, aimed at creating collective works and visual interventions in the urban and natural environment.
