Βάσω ΓκαβαϊσέVasso Gavaisse was born in 1973 in Athens, where she lives and works. She studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1993-1998) and then, with a scholarship from the I.K.Y., she completed her postgraduate studies at Chelsea College of Art & Design (1999-2000) and her doctoral thesis at the University of East London (2000-2004/07).
With clear influences from geometric abstraction, Russian avant-garde and Suprematism, she creates compositions in a space where depth and planes are only rendered through form and colour with infinite combinations of shapes and colours. Gradually her work evolves and strict geometry dominates. She creates reliefs by shaping, cutting, connecting, removing and folding the surface of the paper she is working on to which she adds depth by adding metallic films to create a light source.
