Henry Miller was born in 1891 in Brooklyn, New York. From 1924 he devoted himself to literature and in the period 1930-1939 he settled in Paris, where he wrote some of his most famous works. He lived in France, Greece, New York, Beverly Glen, Big Sur and the Pacific Palisades. In addition to literature, he also took up painting and immersed himself in watercolours, and published an essay on art entitled 'To paint is to love again' (1960). He died in 1980 in Los Angeles, California.
