Thanasis Manoussis was born in 1951 in Serres and grew up in Sidirokastro and Thessaloniki. He studied Pharmacy (b. 1974) and Biology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (b. 1981) and during his postgraduate studies, visual arts at the Cambridge School of Art and Technology. From 1991-1994 he lived in Poland, Germany and Hungary until he settled in Greece in 1994. He worked as a lecturer in the Department of Biology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as a postdoctoral researcher at the NERC Institute of Virology, Oxford and the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge, and as a researcher in the Laboratory of Pharmacology at the School of Pharmacy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His paintings were initially in the realm of figurative art, dominated by the human figure, particularly the female form. In the process, he gradually abandons figuration and moves towards more abstract tendencies, while he also experiments with three-dimensional works, which also move in the climate of abstraction. In 1986 he presented his first one-person exhibition of works, followed by a series of solo exhibitions and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. At the same time he has been involved in book illustration and recently published his first poetry collection. He is a member of the Chamber of Visual Arts of Greece, the Association of Visual Arts Artists of Northern Greece, the Union of Literary Artists of Northern Greece, the Association Française de Conchyliologie, etc.
