Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky was born in 1893. He was a poet and playwright and one of the foremost representatives of Russian Futurism. He co-authored the manifesto "A Slap in the Face of Public Taste" in 1913 and created a vast and diverse body of work. He wrote poems, authored and directed theatrical plays, edited the art magazine LEF and created posters in support of the Communist Party. While his work reflected ideological and patriotic support for the Bolshevik ideology, his relationship with the Soviet state was always complex and often turbulent, even after his suicide in 1930.
