Vassilis Vassilakakis was born in Aggista, Serres, in 1968. He studied at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1988-1994) and at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona (1995-1997).
He lives and works in Thessaloniki, where he teaches at the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University.
His work revolves around the falsehood of the constructed image. He often presents nocturnal landscapes that capture aspects of the urban environment surrounding it. He sometimes uses photography more prominently and other times less visibly, aiming to convey a "different sensation" that evokes feelings of fear and anxiety within the night.
