Claudio Gobbi was born in 1971 in Ancona, grew up in Rome and lived in Milan and Paris before moving to Berlin, where he has lived since 2010. He studied Political Science at La Sapiezna University in Rome and then Photography at the Riccardo Bauer Institute in Milan (2000-2002). In 2003 he won the Prix Mosaique (Centre National de l'Audiovisuel, Luxembourg) for a photographic project on Europe. In 2007 he received a grant from the Italian Ministry of Culture to be an artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, and in 2010 he carried out the photography for Zaha Hadid's MAXXI Museum of XXI Century Arts in Rome.
In his work he is concerned with the cultural and political aspects of landscape and architecture as well as with the exploration of the photographic medium itself. Furthermore, he explores issues such as cultural identity and borders, transnationality and the meeting of East and West, as well as the connections between art, architecture and cultural anthropology.
