Mete Lontane
Franco Viola was born in 1953 in Gaeta, Italy. He graduated in 1977 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Rome. After graduation he worked as an engineer and also worked as a painter.
From his early paintings (watercolours and then oil paintings) Viola creates landscapes combining reality with the inner world. Throughout his artistic career he has experimented extensively and studied the rules of colour. His artworks are the result of an ongoing process and study of the nature of painting and its relationship to time, place and ever-changing social and political conditions. In his most recent creations, moving between expressionism and abstract expressionism, the artist is forming his personal visual writing.
