Aris Prodromidis was born in 1947 in Thessaloniki. He studied visual arts, architecture and the history of photography and cinema at the University of Florence and the Accademia di Belle Arti (until 1976). From 1980 until retirement he taught Visual Applications in Architecture at the Department of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Prodromidis creates works that combine actions, installations, video art, constructions, photography, which are based on principles of geometry and an architectural perception of space, attempting to offer the viewer visual experiences that appeal to all of his senses. The common denominator in the majority of his works is the coupling of the technologically advanced with the primitive, the modern with the old, while special attention is paid to the lighting of each work and the addition of sound. Starting in 1969, he held a series of solo exhibitions in Florence, Strasbourg, Thessaloniki, Athens, etc. and in 2003 a retrospective exhibition was organized at the Vafopouleio Cultural Centre in Thessaloniki, entitled Looking again at the Work 1967-2003. At the same time he participated in international events such as the Biennale of Sofia (1981), Paris (1982), Ljubljana (Yugoslavia, 1983), Pontevedra (Spain, 1984), Barcelona (1990), as well as in the Europalia (Belgium, 1982) and the exhibition "Insite" (in the context of Documenta 10, 1997, Kassel, Germany).
