Kostas Karahalios was born in 1923 in Tripoli. He studied painting at the A.S.K.T. with G. He then attended mural painting courses at the École des Beaux-Arts and the École Estienne in Paris, while throughout his studies he attended sculpture courses. His early works, painted in low relief, are replaced by two-dimensional works in which he incorporates three-dimensional objects of everyday use. Sculpture gradually became the main field of his pursuits and from the early 1960s he incorporated movement, light and electricity into his sculptures. From the mid-1960s, the peg becomes a recurring feature of his personal visual writing, which is incorporated in both his sculptures and paintings. He presented his work in a series of solo exhibitions, mainly abroad but also in Athens, and participated in dozens of group exhibitions. He died in Tripoli in 2007.
