Pierre Labat was born in 1977. He studied plastic arts at the École supérieure des beaux arts de Quimper (b. 1998) and then did postgraduate studies at the École des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg (2000). He participated in residencies at Astérides in Marseille (2006), La Synagogue de Delme in Lindre-Basse (2009), Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto (2011), l'Alliance Française in Querétaro, Mexico (2019) and Les Gloriettes & Komplot at Podensac in Brussels (2022-2023). From 2015 to 2023 he taught sculpture at the École supérieure d'art et de design des Pyrénées in Pau Tarbes, and from 2023-2024 he teaches at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture et du Paysage in Bordeaux. Pierre Labat's works are varied, as he creates everything from monumental outdoor sculpture to architectural and sculptural interventions in gallery space. The main objective of his artistic practice is to engage the viewer as an observer and navigator of artificially created environments similar to the aesthetics of minimalist art. He further believes that through interaction with three-dimensional sculpture the viewer is brought into the fourth dimension - the time of experience. Starting in 2006, he has held several exhibitions in important contemporary art spaces in France, such as the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the ACDC gallery in Bordeaux, the Art-Cade gallery in Marseille, etc. He lives and works in Bordeaux.
