Φρόσω ΜιχαλέαFroso Michalea was born in 1936 in Larissa. She attended drawing and painting lessons from G. She studied sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts with M. Weber and H. Koening (1954-1958). Her early artistic activity was dominated by abstractly rendered human figures, reminiscent of Cycladic figurines, which became transformed into non-figurative abstract forms as Michalea experimented with the pursuit of abstract tendencies. In the 1960s she used limestone and then wood as her material, with which she created compositions that were mainly vertical, based on the discipline of empty and solid volumes (sections Dialogues). In the 1980s and 1990s, metal is the main material she uses, creating sections of works such as Trees and Birds and Movement in Space, where dynamic forms in which the relationship between form and space is emphasized stand out, while in the last section of her work diagonal lines on metal surfaces dominate. She was a founding member of the group "For Communication and Education in Art" and participated in the artistic committee of the National Gallery (1991-95). He lectured on contemporary Greek sculpture in the USA and taught at a private college in Athens (1978-80). He has held solo exhibitions in Greece and participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including the Panhellenies (1963, 1965, 1967), the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture (Paris, 1972), the Europalia (Brussels, 1982), the Metamorphoses of Modernism (Athens, 1992), etc. Her sculptures adorn public and private spaces in Athens and Agios Nikolaos, Crete. She died in 2001 in Athens.
