Born in Miatlevskaia station, Kaluga province, October 25, 1897 and died in Leningrad, January 22, 1954. Studied at the Yevelpidon Military School. In 1914 he enlisted in the army and in 1915 he served in Vitebsk. He studied at the Vitebsk School of Fine Arts (1918-22). In 1919 he paints his first abstract work. In 1920 founding member of the Unovis group. In 1921 the first Suprematist constructions. In 1922 he moved to Petersburg. At the end of 1922 he was appointed artist-designer at the State Porcelain Factory. In 1923 he took part in the Painting Exhibition of artists of all trends of Petersburg. Member of Ginkhukk (1923-26) and the Decorative Institute (1925-27). Solved Suprematist architecture problems. In 1925 he participated in the International Exhibition of Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris and in 1926 in the Post-Revolutionary Posters and Advertisements exhibition in Leningrad. In 1926-28 he worked with Alexandr Nikolskii on colour problems in architecture. In 1928 he started working as a designer of exhibition spaces. In 1932 he was appointed artistic director of the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory. He designed the Soviet pavilion at the 1937 Paris International Exhibition (Grand Prix) and the New York International Exhibition.
