Teta Makri was born in 1945 in Thessaloniki. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Yannis Moralis (1965-1969). She completed postgraduate studies in Paris, where she lived and worked until 1982. She has been a professor at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 1985 (today she is professor emeritus). Teta Makri's work moves within the framework of figurative painting, with an emphasis on colour-synthetic values. At the centre of her thematic choices is the relationship between the cultural present and the past and the critical approach to current reality. With humour and insight, her paintings reflect reflections on contemporary culture. From 1982 until the mid-1980s, she focused on a critical approach to the relationship between the cultural present and the past. In the 1990s her interest shifted from interior space to the metaphor of images of the natural environment, while the organization of the painting field resembled a photographic one. She held a series of solo exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki, the first being in 1983 at the Skoufa Art Gallery. She lives and works in Thessaloniki and Paris.
