Γιάννης ΛασηθιωτάκηςIoannis Lassithiotakis was born in 1956 in Heraklion, Crete. Initially he attended lessons at the Vakalo School with teachers P. Tetsis and G. He studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence (1976-1978). The early phase of his work in the 1980s includes paintings and collages, as well as sculptural constructions dominated by the human figure, which show a neo-expressionist orientation. In the late 1980s and early 1990s he returns to the two-dimensional surface, where he addresses issues of space and time, but gradually incorporates materials and objects into his works, which reinforce the painterly narrative. During the 2000s he concentrates on painting on two-dimensional surfaces with his main subject matter being the human form, which emerges through photographs of intimates. In his more recent works, which move within the framework of geometric abstraction, Constructivist influences are evident, while geometric shapes structure the compositions. Since 1983 he has been teaching at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, where he is currently an associate professor in the Department of Graphic Design. He has presented his work in dozens of solo exhibitions in various cities in Greece and Germany, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He lives and works in Athens.
