Untitled, triptych
Άννα ΚωνσταντίνουAnna Konstantinou was born in 1947 in Alexandria, Egypt and grew up in Nicosia. She studied in Rome, painting and printmaking at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome (1965-1968). She lived and worked in Rome until 1977 and the following year moved permanently to Edinburgh, where she still lives today. The dominant forms in her work are the circle and the square, which are placed in different combinations on the flat surfaces sometimes of canvas, sometimes of paper and sometimes directly on the walls and, together with colour, are used analytically in the context of an exploration of the language of painting itself. She uses white, black, white and red, which she applies to create a pictorial flatness, and when she needs to create a "textured" surface, she builds with material, usually gauze rather than paint.
