Νάκης ΠαναγιωτίδηςNakis Panayiotidis was born in 1947 in Athens. He studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome (1966-71) and architecture in Turin. In 1973 he moved to Bern. His paintings, influenced by minimalism, conceptual art and arte povera, are structured with geometric shapes. In the late 1980s he began his photo-constructions, which are compositions based on black and white photographs as raw material, which he initially coats with words and phrases, materials and objects, and which are illuminated by lamps hanging in front of the works. Light is a key element of his works and is incorporated into most of his constructions. He has presented his work in numerous solo exhibitions in cities around the world (Bern, Lausanne, Basel, Los Angeles, Naples, Naples, Athens, etc.). In 1994 he held a solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bern, and in 2014 the same museum held a major retrospective exhibition of his entire oeuvre. Among his numerous participations in group exhibitions and international events are the Biennale of Alexandria (1982), the Paris Biennale (1982), Contemporary Greek Artists. He lives and works in Bern and Greece.
