Ειρήνη ΑπέργηIrini Aperghi, wife of Achilleas Aperghis and mother of the internationally acclaimed and recognized musician George Aperghis, was born in 1923 in Athens. She studied at the A.S.K.T. in the workshop of Umm. Argyros (1940-1948). Initially she concentrated on two-dimensional works, characterized by geometric abstraction, but then she became interested in the integration of her works in space and proceeded to create complete environments, in which the rigour of construction is combined with the freedom of painterliness. Her interest in the overall organization of the exhibition space in question has led her since 1981 to the artistic utilization of all the space on offer. She created three-dimensional forms in wood, on the surface of which she pasted gauzes, fabrics, tapes and other materials. She presented her work in six solo exhibitions at venues in Athens until her death in 1994, and in 1995, the exhibition she planned to hold there was presented at Medusa Art Gallery.
