Mikhail Matveevic Plaksin was born in 1898 in Sciliarburg. After studying lithography he went on to study at the School of the Society for the Promotion of Arts in Petersburg. During the First World War he was drafted (1916) and from 1919 to 1921 he worked as an army artist in Ekaterinburg as head of the typography department of the local School of Fine Arts. He returned to Moscow in 1921, where he attended classes at the VHUTEMAS. He was a member of the "Electroorganism" group and presented his paintings at the exhibition held at the Museum of Painting Education in Moscow and at the First Dialogue Exhibition of the Associations of Active Revolutionary Art in Moscow in 1924. In the 1920s he worked as a set designer and was involved in inventions: in collaboration with Pavel Matorin he created a colour film camera and stereoscopic projection systems. In 1928 he worked for the Soviet pavilion at the International Press Exhibition in Cologne and made with Alexandre Labas many dioramas for the Confederation Agricultural Exhibitions of the 1930s to 1950s. He died in Moscow in 1965.
