Loukas Venetoulias was born in 1930 in Thessaloniki. He received his initial painting lessons from N.G. Pentzikis and later, after interrupting his medical studies in the third year, he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) under the guidance of teachers such as G. Moralē and S. Papaloukas.
The themes of his works were diverse, but throughout his artistic career, the depiction of the urban landscape of Thessaloniki dominated his oeuvre, often without the presence of humans. During the years of the dictatorship, when he chose to portray human figures prominently, they were used to convey critical messages. Additionally, his body of work includes still lifes, landscapes (especially of Santorini) and a series of abstract compositions exploring colour relationships.
In addition to painting, he was involved in scenography and graphic arts. He was a founding member of the Association of Visual Arts of Northern Greece (SKETBE) and played a pioneering role in the efforts to establish a School of Fine Arts in Thessaloniki. He passed away suddenly in 1984 in Thessaloniki.
